An additional productivity service contained within Enterprise VFC function set is the ability to send and receive fax messages directly from the Enterprise VFC MS-CRM component. Fax messages are distributed via email and delivered using the Microsoft fax service available with Windows 2003/SBS. Unlike traditional fax services that treat a fax as an ordinary email message with either a success or failure state, the Enterprise VFC fax service provides an online connection to the fax server. This permits the user to obtain real time status information and instantaneous notifications of errors. Just like with file transfers, faxes are neatly filed away within the Enterprise VFC database. In addition, fax messages, both inbound and outbound are automatically indexed (via an OCR engine) making them fully searchable, this is an advanced feature that involves integrating both an OCR & search engines on the server side and is currently under development. The component can also offer inbound fax management where a single fax number is used to serve multiple recipients.
